What We're Doing in the Cochrane Area
Cochrane and Area’s response to elder abuse is the result of a community-led, collaborative effort. Community partners representing multiple disciplines and services work together to address the abuse of older adults.

Information, Referral and Support

Community-Led Elder Abuse Response – 403-705-3250
Community-Led Elder Abuse Response (CLEAR) is coordinated, community-wide effort to effectively respond to and address abuse against older adults in Cochrane and Area. The focus is to increase awareness of elder abuse and how to respond via education, coordinated community planning and advocacy. Partners of the CLEAR network include: Alberta Health Services, Bethany Cochrane, Primary Care Network, RCMP and Cochrane Victim Services, Seniors on the Bow, The Town of Cochrane – Family and Community Support Services, and Western Rocky View Family and Community Resource Centre.

*Alberta Health Services – Cochrane Addictions and Mental Health – 403-851-6100
Programs and services for people experiencing addiction and mental health issues. Offers short-term mental health counselling that include: assessing, treating and following up with people; providing information; and referring people to other mental wellness services.

*Alberta Health Services - Home Care – 403-943-1600
Provides medical support for people so they can live in their own homes.

*Bethany Cochrane – 403-932-6422
Bethany Cochrane provides services for people with complex health needs who are unable to remain at home or in a supportive living centre.

Calgary Seniors Resource Society – 403-266-6200
Calgary Seniors helps potentially at-risk seniors achieve and maintain their quality of life through social work and outreach, community engagement, education, and volunteer programming, both during crises and in ongoing, long-term support.

*Cochrane Victim Services – 403-851-8055
Victim Services include crisis support workers and “first responders” who provide support during the first few critical hours after a crime or tragic event. They also provide an essential link between the Police and victims and can provide information regarding the status of investigations, court cases and trial dispositions.

*Primary Care Network – Calgary Foothills: 403-284-3726
PCNs are groups of doctors working collaboratively with teams of health care professionals, such as nurses, dietitians and pharmacists, working together to meet primary health care needs in their communities.

*Seniors on the Bow – 403-932-6002
Provides services, recreation and programming for older adults.

*Western Rocky View Family and Community Resource Centre – 403-851-2250
Offers support, information and referrals in the following areas: mental and physical health; family relationships; education and employment; food, transportation and financial needs; and social emotional support.

Big Hill Haven – 403-796-6564
Big Hill Haven offers support to those experiencing or at risk of experiencing violence and/or abuse. Big Hill Haven offers outreach support, emergency shelter, supportive counselling, advocacy, risk assessment, safety planning, court support, and referrals to community-based resources.

Legal Guidance and Information

Calgary Legal Guidance – 403-234-9266
Calgary Legal Guidance is a non-profit society providing free legal advice, information and education to Albertans who are not able to afford access to justice. Volunteer lawyers donate their professional time to meet with clients and provide legal advice, information and education.

Legal Aid Society – 403-297-2260
The Legal Aid Society assists Albertans facing legal issues by helping them navigate their journey through the justice system and find lasting resolution to their legal challenges.

Family Law Info Center – 403-297-6981
Provides information about family law applications, child support guidelines, and other areas of family law.
