It’s Not Right Program

It's Not Right – Neighbours, Friends, and Families for Older Adults is a program designed to educate and engage elder abuse bystanders everywhere.

The original It's Not Right project originated in Ontario and included a national training for elder abuse leaders and experts in preparation of holding presentations in their own regions and communities.

About the Presentation and Workshop

This dynamic 1-2 hour presentation is used nationally with an emphasis on teaching the neighbours, friends, and family members of seniors at risk to recognize the warning signs of possible elder abuse and and know how to respond, including awareness of steps to help. After all, it is the people closest to the individual who are most likely to recognize when something isn't right! Participants learn from scenarios taken from life to facilitate discussion and consider a range of possible responses – becoming familiar with the resources available to them within their own location to help identify and support a senior in need.

The Train the Trainer workshop is an opportunity to develop trainers across our province to train new presenters for INR-NFF.

Workshop outcomes include:

  • Recognize the warning signs and risk factors of elder abuse
  • Recognize the role ageism plays in abuse
  • Recognize the impact of abusive behaviour
  • Build skills: Learn how to respond safely and supportively
  • Build skills: Learn how to have a conversation about suspected abuse
  • Learn where to find help
  • Give the presentations in your community
